Using Homemade School Supplies

A lot of parents are trying to figure out how to reduce the cost that they will spend in the school supply aisle of their favorite stores this month. Many of them will opt to check out discount school supplies to save money on purchasing the items that their kids need for school. This is a great choice but it’s not the only option to consider. If your kids are young enough that they don’t demand the latest new item to keep them "cool" at school then you may be able to save a lot of money by making school supplies at home instead of buying them at all.

There are many different things that your kids will need for school that you will have to buy. Pens and pencils aren’t things that you’re going to be able to make at home. But some things can be made with the materials that you already have on hand. Using paper bags to create custom book covers is one example of a homemade school supplies product that parents have been making for years. Making index cards out of paper plates, recycling folders from your office into folders that can be used for school and other re-use ideas are also going to work for many parents. Combining this with saving money at the school supply store through some smart shopping can keep costs down this fall season.
