Mass Flow Meters and Other Sunday Dinner Conversations

Like most adults these days, I moved away from my hometown as a young adult and never looked back. However, I always missed the camaraderie of having my extended family around me. As a result, I ended up creating a new type of family in my new location.
Friends and friends of friends gather together at my house every Sunday for dinner. We cook together, share stories and support one another in our various endeavors and difficulties. The funny thing is that it really doesn’t matter what we eat or what we talk about at Sunday dinner; it just matters that we commit to getting together.
For example, last weekend we got involved in an extensive conversation about ultrasonic flow meter readers. Someone in the group had read a Sierra Instruments press release on mass flow meters and brought it up. We’re a group with diverse interests so it turned into a long conversation filled with stories only somewhat related to the topic.
The point is that the topic didn’t matter. We could talk about anything or nothing on these nights. It’s the fact that we’ve all agreed to be together and to support one another that makes us like a family. In this hectic world where most of us live so far from home, that’s something that can be really important.
